Jio GigaFiber Information and Here’s a step-by-step guide to registration

Jio GigaFiber registrations are now open but the service is yet to receive a public rollout in India. But ahead of the formal rollout, it has now been reported Reliance Jio is in planning to launch a Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer, under which subscribers will receive 100GB of free data at a speed of up to 100 Mbps for first three months. The subscribers will have to pay a sum of Rs. 4,500 upfront to avail the service. Since it will be a preview offer, the data benefits for the first three months could be provided at no additional cost, and may become chargeable later. Earlier this week, the company started taking registrations for the Jio GigaFiber service that was launched last month. The operator didn't specify any availability details at the time of its launch, though it specified that areas with most registrations will get priority during the rollout.

Similar to the initial rollout of the Jio telecom services, which had a six-month-long preview period, Jio GigaFiber will come to the public with its own preview offer, reports TelecomTalk. The offer is said to include 100GB of free data along with up to 100 Mbps upload and download speeds. The bundled data will be available on a monthly basis for the first three months from the date of opting the service if we believe the latest report. It is also reported that the Jio GigaFiber subscribers will get the option to add additional data to their broadband account using "Data Top-Ups". This will help subscribers retain high-speed broadband access despite consuming the given data limit. It is said that the data top-ups will be available for free to subscribers and each top-up will add 40GB of data to the account. However, it doesn't mention how many top-ups will be provided to each subscriber in a month. An earlier report claimed that Jio is testing a model in which lets subscribers use top-ups 25 times in a month to avail a total of 1.1TB of free data in the period. The preview offer was spotted online last year, but the company hasn't yet confirmed its development through an official channel. All the initial Jio GigaFiber subscribers are said to be entitled to the preview offer. Also, considering the historical record of Jio, the offer could be extended after the three-month limit. The service was started earlier this year with offerings to a few users on an experimental basis at select locations. However, after the announcement, the service will be available in 1,100 cities across India.

How to Get Jio GigaFiber?
Users have to visit jio.com and register their home address, full name, mobile number and provide their email address (optional). Once the registration process is complete, expect a phone call from a Jio Fiber executive within a few days to get details of the interested consumer of why they want the service if it is available in the area of the address provided, in the first place. If the service is available in your area, someone from the company shall pay a visit to complete the 3-KYC process, and at this time users need to provide a photocopy of their Aadhar card. As a final step, users are asked to pay a sum of Rs 4,500 as a security deposit which Jio will refund when the user discontinues the service. The security deposit amount can be paid through debit card, credit card, Jio Money or Paytm. Once all processes are in place, Jio Executives will pay yet another visit to install the Jio GigaHub, which in itself is just a short process.

What do you get in Jio GigaFiber?
Users can expect high-speed internet at 100 Mbps speed for the first 90 days, although, there is a monthly cap along with access to Jio’s premium apps. There’s still a catch with the monthly cap for data, for instance, if the 100GB is exhausted before the month ends, Jio offers a complementary data top-up of 40 GB which can be availed through the MyJio App or Jio.com. On the other hand, users are allowed to claim up to 25 top ups taking their monthly data to nearly 1100GB Additionally, it’s been suggested that Reliance is not charging users anything for the first three months, and the data comes free of cost. On the other hand, if Jio does not announce its plans in the next three months, this preview offer will be extended further, meaning an extended period of free data. Jio will not charge for installations, as every other charge is covered under the security deposit paid by the user.

What is GigaHub Home Gateway?
Jio’s Optical Network Terminal or ONT is the white box shown above. The GigaHub will be installed at your home by the Jio Executives. This box connects the fibre which will be wired outside of the house. The Jio GigaHub is a multipurpose device and not just a Wi-Fi router. It has one port so users can connect their landline, three LAN ports, one PON port, two USB ports, a WPS button and a power button as well as a small reset button under the WPS button. Pressing the reset button for more than 10 seconds will set the device back to its factory settings. The GigaHub is known to work on two frequencies, 2.5GHz and 5GHz. The 2.5GHz is understood to provide more range and comparatively lesser speed, while the 5GHz can offer more speed but has a lower range. So apart from a Wi-Fi connection, users can also connect their LAN cable to the device and then to their PCs or Laptops.

What else to expect?
Earlier rumours suggested that the Jio GigaHub box could be multipurpose and not just a source of internet service. So, there were more about Jio’s new DTH service, and the understanding is GigaTV set-top-box is likely to launch but when the company launches internet protocol television (IPTV) the same GigaHub could be used as set-top box, but there is no confirmation nor dates on it as of now. However, apart from this additional rumoured feature there is nothing else known about this.

Jio SmartHome Services
Part of the announcements at the Reliance AGM, Mukesh Ambani also emphasised on the Jio SmartHome Accessories suite. These include an audio dongle, a video dongle, smart speaker, Wi-Fi extender, smart plug, outdoor security camera and a TV camera. Then there are additional accessories such as a smoke sensor, siren, gas leak mask, panic button, door sensor and smart video doorbells, which are all part home security accessories. These could help users manage their home security all through their smartphones in the future. The idea is to have these devices connected through the Jio GigaFibre and using the fibre Jio can set up these accessories within an hour, claimed Director of Reliance Jio, Isha Ambani. These are still future plans that will take place once the rollout for the Jio GigaFiber is at an advanced stage. The Jio SmartHome services are very much similar to Google’s Nest offers that are present in the US.

Everyone who is anyone knows that Reliance announced their new internet service, Jio GigaFiber, and its registrations went live on Independence day. The service will provide home users and businesses with up to 1Gbps data speeds. Before you head to the Jio website to register, here’s an important FYI: registering for the service doesn’t mean that you will get the service for sure. The registration merely lets you express interest in the Jio GigaFiber, and if there are sufficient number of users in an area demanding the fast speed internet service, the Mukesh Ambani-led company will prioritise rollout of the broadband service in the particular area.

The website hasn’t listed its broadband speed plans yet but it is speculated that users will get the speed of 100Mbps, unlimited voice and video calling over VoIP, and access to JioTV app.

The service will be launched simultaneously in 1,100 cities across the country but there’s no date for an official launch.
Here’s a simple guide to registering on the website:

1) Log on to the official website

2) Google Maps will automatically point to your current location. If that’s where you plan on registering, click on ‘Confirm’

3) Or click ‘Change’ and manually enter your address, and click ‘Confirm.’
4) Enter your name and mobile number to receive an OTP.

5)Authenticate the OTP. If you are filling out the details on behalf of your society, developer or township, you can fill out the last tab too.

That all yours...
