Three Kinds of Laziness

Laziness is a common human trait. Unfortunately, it inhibits wakeful energy and undermines our confidence and strength. There are three kinds of laziness: comfort orientation, loss of heart, and “couldn’t care less.” The Buddha described three kinds of laziness. First there is the kind of laziness we all know: we don't want to do anything, and we'd rather stay in bed half an hour later than get up and meditate. This called as "the laziness of lethargy or inactivity"

Second, there is the laziness of feeling ourselves unworthy, the laziness of thinking, "I can't do this. Other people can meditate, other people can be mindful, other people can be kind and generous in difficult situations, but I can't, because I'm too stupid." Or, alternatively, "I'm always an angry person;" "I've never been able to do anything in my life;" "I've always failed, and I'm bound to fail." This is laziness. This called as "the laziness of attachment to negative behavior"

The third kind of laziness is being busy with worldly things. We can always fill up the vacuum of our time by keeping ever so busy. Being occupied may even make us feel virtuous. But usually it’s just a way of escape. When I came out of the cave, some people said, “Don’t you think that solitude was an escape?” and I said, “An escape from what?” There I was—no radio, no newspapers, no one to talk to. Where was I going to escape to? When things came up, I couldn’t even telephone a friend. I was face-to-face with who I was and with who I was not. There was no escape. This called as "the laziness of self-discouragement or despondency"

Our lives with fills with activities. Many of them are really very good activities but if we are not careful, they can just be an escape. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do good and necessary things, but there has to be breathing in as well as breathing out. We need to have both the active and the contemplative. We need time to just be with ourselves, and to become genuinely centered, when the mind can just be quiet

Architecture
A project developed by a diverse team needs clear guidelines on how to face common problems. For example, developers need a way to get off the main thread. It makes sense to provide a framework to do this consistently. Also, a good architecture should be hard to break: defining the layers of an app and clearly describing their relationships, avoids mistakes and simplifies code reviews.

We took concepts from Clean Architecture to solve these two problems (layering and background execution). The app is divided into a three layer structure:
Presentation layer (Views and ViewModels)
Domain layer (use cases)
Data layer (repositories, user manager)

The presentation layer cannot talk to the data layer directly. A ViewModel can only get to a repository through one or more use cases. This limitation ensures independence and testability. It also brings a nice opportunity to jump to a background thread: all use cases are executed in the background guaranteeing that no data access happens on the UI thread.

General architecture of the app
Presentation layer: Views + ViewModels + Data Binding
ViewModels provide data to the views via LiveData. The actual UI calls are done with Data Binding, relieving the activities and fragments from boilerplate. We deal with events using an event wrapper, modeled as part of the UI’s state. Read more about this pattern in this blog post.

Domain layer : UseCases
The domain layer revolves around the UseCase class, which went through a lot of iterations. In order to avoid callback hell we decided to use LiveData to expose the results of the UseCases.
By default use cases execute on a DefaultScheduler (a Kotlin object) which can later be modified from tests to run synchronously. We found this easier than dealing with a custom Dagger graph to inject a synchronous scheduler.

Data layer
The app dealt with 3 types of data, considering how often they change:
Static data that never changes: map, agenda, etc.
Data that changes 0–10 times per day: schedule data (sessions, speakers, tags, etc.)
Data that changes constantly even without user interaction: reservations and session starring
An important requirement for the app is offline support. Every piece of data should be available to the user on first run and even with a spotty Wi-Fi connection (we can’t assume perfect coverage at the venue and we should assume that many visitors will turn off their roaming data).
The static data is hard-coded. For example, the agenda repository started as an embedded JSON file but it was so static we translated it to Kotlin for simplicity and performance.
The conference data comes in a relatively large JSON file (around 600Kb uncompressed). An initial version of it was included in the APK to achieve full offline support. The app downloads fresh data from a static URL whenever the user refreshes the schedule or when the app receives a Firebase Cloud Messaging signal with a request to refresh. The conference data is downloaded inside a job managed by a JobScheduler to ensure that the user’s data is used responsibly.
The downloaded JSON is cached using OkHttp so the next time the app is started, the cached version is used instead of the bootstrapped file. This approach relieved us from dealing with files directly.
For user data (reservation, session starring, uploading Firebase tokens, etc.) we used Firestore, which is a NoSQL cloud database. It comes with offline support so we were able to sync user data across Android, web and iOS effortlessly.
Sign in support was implemented with Firebase Authentication. An AuthStateListener indicates when the current user has changed (from logged out to logged in, for example) using a LiveData observable.

Capital letters are used to give emphasis to or call attention to certain words to distinguish them from the context. In manuscripts they may be written small or large and are indicated by lines drawn underneath, two lines for SMALL CAPITALS and three lines for CAPITALS.
Some authors, notably Carlyle, make such use of Capitals that it degenerates into an abuse. They should only be used in their proper places as given in the table below.
1.    The first word of every sentence, in fact the first word in writing of any kind should begin with a capital; as, "Time flies." "My dear friend."
2.    Every direct quotation should begin with a capital; "Dewey said,—'Fire, when you're ready, Gridley!'"
3.    Every direct question commences with a capital; "Let me ask you; 'How old are you?'"
4.    Every line of poetry begins with a capital; "Breathes there a man with soul so dead?"
5.    Every numbered clause calls for a capital: "The witness asserts: (1) That he saw the man attacked; (2) That he saw him fall; (3) That he saw his assailant flee."
6.    The headings of essays and chapters should be wholly in capitals; as, CHAPTER VIII—RULES FOR USE OF CAPITALS.
7.    In the titles of books, nouns, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs should begin with a capital; as, "Johnson's Lives of the Poets."
8.    In the Roman notation numbers are denoted by capitals; as, I II III V X L C D M—1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000.
9.    Proper names begin with a capital; as, "Jones, Johnson, Caesar, Mark Antony, England, Pacific, Christmas."
Such words as river, sea, mountain, etc., when used generally are common, not proper nouns, and require no capital. But when such are used with an adjective or adjunct to specify a particular object they become proper names, and therefore require a capital; as, "Mississippi River, North Sea, Alleghany Mountains," etc. In like manner the cardinal points north, south, east and west, when they are used to distinguish regions of a country are capitals; as, "The North fought against the South."
When a proper name is compounded with another word, the part which is not a proper name begins with a capital if it precedes, but with a small letter if it follows, the hyphen; as "Post-homeric," "Sunday-school."
10.  Words derived from proper names require a Capital; as, "American, Irish, Christian, Americanize, Christianize."

Image:From left Amman, Theepan, Jeyam and LTTE chief Prabhakaran

World Cup Football 2018: Japan fans impress by cleaning up stadium

Japanese fans certainly had reason to go wild on Tuesday night. Their side won their opening game, beating Colombia 2-1, and securing the team's first victory against a South American side. But after the team swept Colombia off the pitch, Japanese fans also did their share of sweeping,  meticulously cleaning up their rows and seats in the stadium. Equipped with large rubbish bags they brought along, the fans marched through the rows picking up rubbish, to leave the place just as neat as they had found it. "It's not just part of the football culture but part of Japanese culture," Japan-based football journalist

Prabhakaran alive?

Vaiko says LTTE founder Prabhakaran alive, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, a well-known sympathiser of LTTE, has made a fresh claim that the Sri Lankan rebel organisation's leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is still alive.
He has made this claim while slamming Naam Tamizhar Katchi chief Seeman. "Seeman, who is under the impression that Prabhakaran is no more, is using a flag similar to that of the LTTE. But he doesn't know the truth. Vaiko recalled his long association with Prabhakaran and said that the LTTE chief had penned a letter to DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, in which he had praised him (Vaiko) a lot."

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s Presidential Ambition!

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s Presidential Ambition! Despite Competition Among His Brothers For The Sri Lankan Presidency, Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa Wants His Son Namal Rajapaksa To Become President. Sri Lanka’s uneasy coalition is expected to hobble along till the presidential elections next year, but it is not only the government that is in trouble. The opposition too is in trouble, trying to choose a candidate.
The uncertainty over the contender at the 2019 vote is at the nub of wrangling between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as they both harbour hopes of contesting.
Within the opposition ranks, the euphoria that followed the February local council victory has given way to fissures within the newly formed Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Was Pottu Amman Alive?

Was Pottu Amman Alive?
The most reliable source which proved that Pottu Amman died along with Prabhakaran was the interview given by Sea Tiger Chief
Soosai's wife.
Sea tigers chief Soosai's wife and children tried to escape to India on 14th May 2009 but within few minutes their boat was captured.Earlier they were considered as civilians but when they reach camp they were identified by already surrendered LTTE cadres. Soon Army took them under custody.
She told(public interview) that when she left the LTTE controlled area her husband Soosai, Pottu Amman, Prabhakaran and his family were still present there and were alive. Within few days army crushed that small area and killed most people. So there was not even a small chance that he might escaped within such small time. At that time Sri Lankan and Indian Navy(near Indian waters) were involved in heavy patrolling along those coastal areas. So virtually there was no chance to escape for him.
But she also made it clear that she didn't saw Prabhakaran or his family but knew that they were there. She even didn't see Amman there. So there is no concrete evidence that he was present there
Pottu Amman body was not found raising speculations that he must have escaped before the final battle.
But facts show that he was with Prabhakaran until the previous night.
It was speculated he must have betrayed Prabhakaran into a trap and bought his life .(Please read my Bleeding Island through Partridge Publications).
Many LTTE leaders were caught alive, confined secretly and disappeared later.
Pottu Amman could have been one.
